Sien Lok Park Redevelopment

In 1982, Sien Lok embarked on a long term project to see the preservation and development of Calgary Chinatown’s only large public green space as Sien Lok Park. Over the years, several elements that express the history of the Chinese Canadian experience have been installed in the park. With the celebration of Chinatown’s centenary, the City of Calgary designated a portion of its Chinatown Centennial Celebration budget to facilitate community engagement for the redevelopment of Sien Lok Park.

The Sien Lok Society of Calgary was incorporated in 1968 in response to a real threat to the continued existence of Calgary’s Chinatown. Having helped preserve the historic Chinese district, Sien Lok continues to work for the betterment of the Chinese Community. True to its name which translates to "Happiness through good works", Sien Lok continues in benevolent activities that honour the presence of Chinese culture in Calgary’s social fabric.

The Sien Lok Society of Calgary has, for over 40 years, been working to build a better understanding and relationships between people of Chinese ancestry and all Canadians through the promotion of the Chinese language, philosophies and culture. Sien Lok prides itself in being a non-political, not-for-profit, philanthropic organization working for the betterment of the Chinese Canadian community.
